Billing, coding, credentialing and denial management for Oklahoma practices, with Medicare claims through Novitas Solutions (Jurisdiction JH) and Oklahoma Medicaid handled by people who know the rules.

Medical billing for Oklahoma practices
Oklahoma expanded Medicaid in 2021 and moved most SoonerCare members into managed care with SoonerSelect in April 2024. Practices now bill Aetna Better Health, Humana Healthy Horizons and Oklahoma Complete Health alongside traditional SoonerCare. The state also has a large tribal health system, and many rural practices outside Oklahoma City and Tulsa rely heavily on Medicaid and Medicare.
Medicare Part B claims go to Novitas Solutions in Jurisdiction H. SoonerCare fee-for-service claims carry a six-month filing limit, which leaves little room for billing backlogs. SFA Solutions works with practices across Oklahoma remotely from Austin, verifying the right SoonerSelect plan before each visit and submitting most clean claims within 24 hours.

Prompt pay law
According to the Oklahoma Insurance Department, insurers must pay clean claims within 30 days when submitted electronically and 45 days when submitted on paper (36 O.S. 1219).
Nurse practitioners
Reduced practiceSince HB 2298 took effect November 1, 2025, Oklahoma CNPs, CNSs and CNMs with at least 6,240 hours of supervised prescribing can apply to the Board of Nursing for independent prescriptive authority. APRNs without it still need a supervising physician agreement to prescribe, and no APRN may prescribe Schedule II drugs. NPs enroll and bill under their own NPI, but payer files should list the supervising physician when one is required.
Credentialing
Enroll with SoonerCare through the OHCA provider portal first, since SoonerSelect plans require an active SoonerCare contract before they will credential you. BCBSOK and UnitedHealthcare rely on CAQH ProView. Medicaid enrollment must be revalidated at least every five years.
Billing challenges Oklahoma practices face
A six-month SoonerCare filing limit
SoonerCare fee-for-service claims must be received within six months of the date of service. Rejected claims eat into that window quickly, so rework has to happen in days, not weeks.
SoonerSelect plan assignment
Since April 2024, most SoonerCare members belong to one of three SoonerSelect plans, while some groups stay in fee-for-service. Checking the member's plan at each visit prevents claims from going to the wrong payer.
Tribal health coordination
Oklahoma has one of the largest tribal health systems in the country. Patients with IHS or tribal coverage plus SoonerCare need careful payer order and referral handling to avoid denials.
