About billing in Practice Fusion

Practice Fusion is a cloud EHR for independent practices, especially small and solo providers, and is part of Veradigm. Providers create superbills from the visit in the EHR. For billing, Practice Fusion offers Practice Fusion Billing Services, an outsourced service run by its own billing team with an integrated clearinghouse, and its help center also lists billing partners the EHR connects with.

Does SFA work with Practice Fusion?

Yes. We work inside your Practice Fusion account and the billing system connected to it, using user logins your practice creates. We have no partnership, integration or listing with Practice Fusion or Veradigm.

What billing work does SFA handle in Practice Fusion?

We review superbills for coding and completeness, then handle claim submission, rejections, payment posting, denials and A/R follow-up in the billing system your practice uses with Practice Fusion. Your providers keep creating superbills the way they do now.

How does onboarding work?

It starts with a free practice audit, where we review your billing in Practice Fusion and walk you through where revenue may be slipping. If you move forward, we sign a Business Associate Agreement, your administrator creates user accounts for our team, and we review your payer list, fee schedules and open A/R. We also confirm how superbills reach your billing system today, since that is where missed charges usually hide.

Do we need to change our EHR?

No. We work inside your existing Practice Fusion setup, so there is no migration and your providers keep documenting the way they do today. You keep charting in Practice Fusion, and your billing system and clearinghouse stay as they are.

What access does SFA need?

We need a Practice Fusion user account that can view superbills and the notes behind them, plus a user account in your billing system or clearinghouse. Your practice creates and controls both and can remove them at any time.

How are claims handled?

We match each signed note to its superbill, check codes and modifiers, and submit through your billing system. Claims are reviewed against applicable billing, coding and payer-specific rules (10,000+ in our workflow) before submission to help identify preventable errors. Clearinghouse rejections are corrected and resent, with most clean claims submitted within 24 hours of final review.

How are payments posted?

ERAs and paper EOBs are posted in your billing system and reconciled to deposits. Patient balances are then ready for statements in whatever process your practice uses.

How are denials worked?

We sort denials by reason, correct and resubmit what is fixable, and send appeals with the documentation the payer needs, using notes from Practice Fusion where needed. Repeat issues go back to your providers so the next superbill is complete.

How does SFA Intelligence fit in?

SFA Intelligence is our AI-assisted workflow, powered by the RCM Employee platform, which we license. It works alongside Practice Fusion, reading the claim and remittance data your practice authorizes, to run eligibility checks (270/271), check coding against NCCI edits, scrub claims, categorize denials by reason, flag timely-filing risk in A/R and reconcile 835 payments to spot underpayments. Your team keeps using Practice Fusion as usual, and our billers review and own every claim decision. There is no direct integration with Practice Fusion, only the access your practice grants.

What reporting will we get?

You get monthly reporting on collections, A/R aging, denials and clean claim rate, reviewed with your named account manager. We also compare visit counts in Practice Fusion against billed claims so missing superbills show up quickly. Figures are reconciled to what Practice Fusion shows, so your numbers and ours match.

What security controls apply?

We sign a BAA before any work begins, and our U.S.-based team is HIPAA trained. Staff systems use MFA, staff devices are encrypted, and we complete an annual HIPAA security risk assessment. Your practice creates our Practice Fusion accounts and can change or revoke them at any time.

What does implementation look like?

After the BAA is signed and accounts are active, we can typically begin within 24 hours of receiving system access. The first weeks focus on clearing held or rejected claims, confirming ERA enrollment with your main payers and building an A/R worklist by age and filing deadline. With Practice Fusion, we also set a daily check for signed notes without a superbill. Your named account manager is your single point of contact throughout.

Billing tips for Practice Fusion practices

Reconcile visits to superbills

When the EHR and the billing system are separate, the most common leak is a completed visit with no superbill. A daily count of signed notes against charges catches it before the filing limit.

Review superbill history before resubmitting

Practice Fusion keeps a superbill history. Check it before sending a correction so you resubmit the latest version and do not create a duplicate claim.

Confirm who owns billing

If your practice once used Practice Fusion Billing Services or a past billing partner, confirm which system holds open A/R today. Old balances left in a retired system are easy to lose.
